Chapter 1 - Installing Pro Gold XP

Requirements

  • PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
  • 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (128 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
  • 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space for application and data
  • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive
  • Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  • Internet connection for activation and ViewMyListing.com (optional)
  • Laser or ink jet printer (DOT MATRIX NOT SUPPORTED)
  • Backup Device
      • Maintaining a copy of critical files is essential to prevent the loss of irreplaceable data due to hard drive failure, file corruption, or catastrophic loss (i.e., fire, theft, disaster, etc.)
      • Pro Gold XP’s data file: Pro_Data.mdb, is a critical file containing all user entered data and should be backed up daily
      • In a multi Pro Gold XP user installation, only the one shared Pro_Data.mdb data file used by all needs to be backed up
      • Many types of backup devices exist and we have no preference for the type, but do recommend one which allows the saved data to be stored in an off-site location
      • Review your backup software documentation for establishing an appropriate backup plan for your company
      • Industry research organizations have noted users inability to recover useable, intact files 35% of the time when they tried a restore function, therefore, it is imperative backup files be restored and verified periodically
    • Internet Access
